A Diamond In Rough Water

If you wear jewelry, chances are you've gone on a treasure hunt for some lost earring or what-have-you. Sound familiar?
Well, things got a bit exciting recently, after SAC instructor Richard Olsen's shallow-water aqua-aerobics class...
It seems a lady-participant left the pool and noticed the diamond had somehow separated from her ring's setting. As you might imagine, panic ensued as everyone wondered how they'd ever find a small, clear stone in a large body of water.
Richard had an idea of where the member had spent most of the class. He also knew they'd all briefly circumvented the pool, so really – it could be anywhere.
Donning a handy "new set" of crisp goggles, Olsen toured the water, as others walked the pool bottom feeling for small rough stones, to no avail.
As hope faded, Richard noted a pile of sediment near an outlet port. Could it be? He said a short prayer and dived down to check...aha! Sure enough, there was a diamond
hidden in the rough water after all...

Sunset Turkey Shoot Racquetball 2016 - Results

Published November 20, 2016

Sunset Athletic Club members faced tough competition at this years "Sunset Turkey Shoot" Pro-Am Racquetball Tournament in mid-November. Although many of them only made the quarter-finals, we were proud and excited to cheer them on the home-team courts! SAC was proud to showcase talented athletes from the West Coast, Hawaii, and as far away as Maine – at this Oregon Racquetball Association tour event.
Jimmy Lowe from Aiea, Hawaii set his sites on his third-year-running as Men’s Pro/Open Champion – but in the final match was upset by Tony Carson of Louisville, Colorado. Carson also claimed first place in Men's Doubles Open, with partner Jeremy McGlothin of Clackamas, Oregon.
SAC members who had success included Abhinav Brahmarouthu who scored first place with partner Louis Delelee in the Junior Doubles Advanced division. They beat out local peers Rob Merrick and Tyler Loescher.
Peter Uluave made it to the Semi-finals in Men's Doubles B competition, with partner Jerry Svoboda. Familiar face Kaitlyn Boyle won first in Women's Singles Open/A competition.
Other Sunset Athletic Club players included Steven Boyle, Shaun Dillon, Donna & Paul Maduell, Scott McLaughlin, Jeff Clark, Joanie Hofmeister,
Jay Khajanchee, and Jeanne Klein.
Thanks to everyone who tirelessly supported, participated, organized, volunteered, and worked so hard to make this event happen!
The Sunset Turkey Shoot is sanctioned by USA Racquetball and the IRT. Special thanks to sponsors: Widmer Brewing, Courtyard by Marriot Hillsboro, Sunset Athletic Club, Oregon Racquetball Promotions, and Pro Penn.

Change It Up!

SAC Group Fitness Director

We are only in shape for the style of exercise we do routinely. Our bodies become extremely efficient at performing the same routine over and over; And, when that’s all we do, day in and day out, we can set ourselves up for injury and most likely mental burn-out. This limits our overall fitness, reduces conditioning and, rather than improving, we simply maintain a certain level of fitness. This is not a beneficial way to get fit.

Varied workouts are the backbone of any well-developed exercise program. We must keep our bodies guessing in order to reap the benefits of regular exercise. This was we are able to reach a higher level of fitness and health.

Sunset Athletic Club offers many styles of exercise classes making it easy for you to “change up” your routine. Check out our Fall Group Exercise Schedule effective September 6th. You may choose from over 100 weekly classes. Why not “blast out” of your same old routine and “spice up” your current program?
